This site provides useful and practical information on how to take advantage of the Business Rate Relief scheme. If you’re looking for your particular council’s form please use our make your claim page.
What is Business Rate Relief?
If you own a small Business which has a rateable value of below £15,000 a year (or less than £21,500 in Greater London) you could claim up to half of your business rates back with the money being paid by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr Alistair Darling.
What's the big deal?
From the 16 councils in Essex alone, £44.8 million pounds of rate relief was NOT claimed by small local businesses in the space of one year. Four of the twelve councils in Essex did not respond to the survey so this figure could well be higher! Across the nation only 41% of small businesses that are eligible for Business Rate Relief actually claim it back. Money that is not claimed goes straight back to the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
How can you claim Business Rate Relief?
To claim back your Business Rate Relief simply fill out a Rate Relief claim form and send it off, it's that easy! The form is a sheet of A4 paper which will take no more than 10 minutes to fill out. What are you waiting for...get claiming! You can find the form for your council on the make your claim page.
